AIM – Advanced Inertial Measurement
Embedded measurement and processing technology for motion, wave and structural monitoring
AIM is WISE Group-developed technology that combines configurable sensing, embedded software and signal processing within the monitoring systems we deliver.
It can be configured around the measurement task, from a single motion sensor to distributed arrangements with several measurement locations. AIM processes sensor data close to its source and provides the information required by the wider monitoring system.
AIM is supplied as part of selected WISE Group sensors and systems rather than as a standalone software package.
In-house technology for application-specific measurement
Offshore measurement requirements vary significantly between a floating production unit, a workboat, a buoy and an offshore structure. AIM provides a common technology platform that WISE Group can configure for these different applications.
The sensing arrangement, processing, coordinate system, filtering and outputs can be adapted to the measurement points and operational information required by the complete system.
What AIM enables
Configurable sensing
AIM can be configured as a single-sensor unit or as a multi-sensor arrangement. Where the application requires it, measurements from several inertial sensors or distributed locations can be processed individually or combined.
Embedded processing
Raw sensor measurements can be processed into application-specific outputs such as acceleration, angular motion, velocity, displacement and wave parameters. Both raw and processed data can be made available to the wider system.
Measurement where it matters
Sensor orientation, installation position and defined points of interest can be included in the configuration. This allows AIM to transform measurements into the required coordinate system and, where appropriate, calculate motion at locations where installing a physical sensor may be impractical.
System integration
Configurable communication and output options allow AIM data to be incorporated into WISE Group monitoring software or other project interfaces. Each implementation is engineered as part of the complete monitoring architecture.
Developed through real-world applications
AIM has evolved through multiple generations of hardware, firmware and project configurations. It has been developed for applications including floating production units, offshore structures, helideck monitoring installations, workboats and oceanographic buoys.
Each configuration is documented and tested around its intended measurement task, including the sensing arrangement, calibration, processing and system interfaces. This continuing development allows WISE Group to reuse proven technology while adapting it to new monitoring requirements.

AIM-based sensors
Motion Sensor – AIM
A configurable motion sensor for vessels, floating installations and other marine applications.
WISE AIM Wave Buoy Sensor
Embedded motion processing and wave analysis for integration into specialist offshore buoy platforms.
Part of a complete monitoring system
AIM is one layer of the solution. WISE Group engineers the sensor arrangement, embedded processing, communications, data acquisition, displays and system interfaces needed for the application.
Depending on the project, AIM data may be handled by DADAS or integrated into another approved monitoring-system interface. This combination of in-house technology and system-integration experience allows the complete measurement chain to be designed and supported as one solution.
